News Americas, LOS ANGELES, CA, Weds. Nov. 26, 2014: Trinidadian-American Alfonso Ribeiro fought his way through pain to walk away with the Mirror Ball trophy, $345K and the title of “Dancing with the Stars” Season 19, Tuesday night.
Ribeiro and his partner Witney Carson were crowned this year’s winners after a grueling season and a dynamic and near flawless cha cha and Argentine tango Monday night.
“I cannot believe this!” Ribeiro told host Tom Bergeron on the win. “I don’t even know what to say! These are happy tears!”
On Twitter he posted: “This is the moment I’ve waited 10 years for. @witneycarson and @dancingabc thank you.”
Ribeiro, who played Carlton Banks on the 90s show “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” is also a director, host, and singer. He was born in New York in the Riverdale section of the Bronx, to parents from Trinidad and Tobago, Michael and Joy (De Leon) Ribeiro and began his career at the age of eight and first gained recognition in 1983, when he played a leading role in the Broadway musical, ‘The Tap Dance Kid.’
Second place went to Duck Dynasty star Sadie Robertson, who thanked God “who brought me so far in this competition.”
